 Clarinet Choir Music

After this weekend’s concert our community band will be taking a break until March. (They do it every year.) The clarinet section is going to keep playing together (which we have never done before), but we need some music. Does anyone have suggestions for (US) grade 3 or 4 music that would be fun to play, and sources for it?

If you are all in Bb then there is no reason not to poach repertoire from everyone else- recorders, flutes-strings etc. You'd all be in the same key so the actual written intention wouldn't matter unless someone in the group with perfect pitch couldn't cope with the extra strain.

We have two firsts, two seconds, two thirds, all Bb, an Eb (who also has a Bb) and a bass. I can borrow an alto if required. We aren't ashamed to play sax or coronet parts, or to transpose.

Thanks!

Tony:

You might try the Chatfield Band Music Library in Chatfield, MN. They have over 5,000 titles in their collection which can be borrowed just like library books. In addition to marching and concert band stuff, they have a lot of music for smaller groups such as your clarinet choir. Their music covers all genres from classical to pop to big band to ethnic to ...etc.

Their rental fees are cheap, and even a little less if you join - membership is $25 per year. They have an on-line search function (like a card catalogue) to help you see find the music you want.

Check it out: www.chatfieldband.lib.mn.us/library

I have bought a number of clarinet choirs and quartets from BRS Music. Their web site is www.brsmusic.net. They have some really nice pieces for grade 3 to 4 levels.

Excellent resource jcm. They even provide a brief sound bite of the piece.

Tony,

The clarinet choir my daughter plays in usually hunt around in music shops (& you can do that online on the links). If you go into an actual shop, you can of course look at the score in detail and decide if its suitable.

Some of the pieces they have played are

Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite
Cosi Fan Tutte Overture
Allegretto by Karl Stamitz
Mozart pieces such as Turkish March, Divertimiento No12??
Dittersdorf Partita in 4 mvmts
Hungarian Dances
Easy Winners by Joplin
Some klezmer pieces

Have sent you a private message with some links.
