Gibson guitars/Baldwin Pianos making student clarinets
Author: Clarinetgirl06

I was at Target today and I walked by an ailse that had Gibson guitar/Baldwin piano musical instruments (violin, clarinet, trumpet, and flute). At first I saw it and was like, "Oh great, another Bandnow clarinet." but it was rather odd to see this.

The clarinet is made of hard rubber/bakelite, has undercut toneholes, an adjustable thumb rest, french sculptured keys made of nickel plated brass, a reversible nylon ligature, and a few other things. It retails for 199.99 and I found this a little different from the other student clarinets I've ever seen at Wal-Mart or Target before.

Another curious thing is that the box had a website for this clarinet and I went to it and no site came up for it.

I'll attach some pictures that I took of it. It just seems odd to me. Do you think this would be a higher quality clarinet? It was in a case and I wasn't going to open the box to touch it so I can't really tell how well the keys are made and how it felt, etc. What do you all think?

Photos of it. Notice it has a 5 year limited warranty as well. Interesting...

Are you aware of how absolutely wrong it is to take pictures of a retail environment? Especially at Target!? I'm thinking of turning you in. See my off-post e-mail.

Are you sure of that? I've not heard that.

@Carrie, the clarinetgirl, the horn looks pretty interesting to me, too. Why don't you take a mouthpiece and ask them if you can play it and see what it's like? Most they can do is say no.

Enjoy your day.

Carrie,
Thanks for the pictures. I have never heard of a problem taking a picture in Target. I see people do it all the time with their cell phones. The horn looks nice but I really wonder how it plays? Thanks again!

pmgoff, once again I dont understand what you are talking about.
First of all, the picture only shows the product and not the store.
Second, Carrie is not using the picture to market the same product at her store
Third, if she would not have told us it was Target then we wouldn't know.
Forth, its free advertising for Target to show many clarinet players the product.

Thanks again Carrie!

I wonder how "undercut tone holes" sound at 199.99. Better a good straight hole than a badly undercut one... Of course, with today's CNC machines it's a snap to manufacture them, but still...

I think that technically it might be construed as "corporate espionage" to tkae pictures of a retailers display method. Realistically I can't imagine that they'd care, and they'd also have to post somewhere a sign asking people not to take pictures.......

Talk about mountains and molehills!

I know that some very good recorders can be had quite cheaply (the yamaha 100-series springs to mind) but they're simpler to make. I personally would view a $199 guitar the same way I would a $25 guitar...I'd run, not walk.......

Especially if there isn't much more to be seen than the plain carton...

Espionage infers a lot more than a picture of a readily available public display ...

Boys & girls, I sought legal advice about this. The link stays, and let's get back on track.

I wonder what kind of reeds are included...*shudders*

Epoch means "a period of time", wonder why the company chose such a name...

Dictionary also made a reference to a point in time in which striking things happened...interesting...
