I believe that JNK has the best solution. I had a brief experience with a silver S R oboe mp back in the 60's, while struggling to make suitable D R's and playing them, and, as I recall, it didn't work well enough to pursue. Yes, cut-down reeds were a real touchy problem. My impression, on tuning our small orch, was that there was less "uniformity" of pitch due to slight embouchure "changes", a bit like "bending" notes on sop cls. I returned it to the cellist-flutist owner, and tried but failed to recover it from his estate. I doubt its a solution to oboe reed problems. Don
