 Resting position

How do you rest your instrument (long rests or Bb and A clarinets) when you are performing? (orchestral setting, ensemble...) I'm very detail oriented. :)

I did meet a clarinetist the other day who, when switching in concert from Bb to A, would play one clarinet and keep the other clarinet snug vertically between his knees. He stated that otherwise his clarinet would go immediately flat. That was new to me!
