Thank you.

Koo Young Chung,

1010 is a Boosey and Hawkes model number for a clarinet that had a large bore. That model is no longer being produced.

Regards,
Hans

The nearest you can get to a B&H 1010 is a Peter Eaton Elite (the keywork is almost identical to a B&H 1010) - and Luis Rossi makes a 1010 bore clarinet to his own design.

The 1010 clarinet has a bore of 15.2mm - I think the largest French bore clarinet being made today is around 14.75mm so there's a considerable difference in size.

Though you can still find used sets of 1010s for a reasonable price - and less than the cost of a Buffet R13 Bb.

Thank you, Jamietalbot

How are the intonations?

And 12th overtones?

Does it have bigger sound than R13?

Intonation on the 1010 is fine-you just have to compensate on
some notes, the same as you would with any other clarinet.
The sound is very warm and rich if played well.
If you do try one, remember that you need a large bore mouthpiece for it.
As for the sound being bigger than a R13, it probably depends on the player
rather than the instrument.

Good luck!

The altissimo register on large bore clarinets is effortless - you'll find they do play well up top from a whisper right through to a good ff.

I have worked on several 1010 clarinets, they do have manufacturing problems that can be sorted out which is pretty much the same as most clarinets, but all the keys are mounted on long steel rods which are wide at the ends and thinner in the middle, but I don't see why they need to thin them down as a well fitting steel (the same diameter along the entire length) will probably work better - wear won't be localised to the ends.

I've also cork padded a couple of them (and leather for the bottom four cups), and they do feel more positive under the fingers with cork pads as well as positive in general response, but the Acton vent can get a bit noisy if played with heavy fingers.
