How does one go about getting a replacement register tube for a Buffet RC Prestige A clarinet?

Nick,

Brannon Woodwinds, in Evanston, IL USA resizes tubes on some Buffet A clarinets during their overhaul process, but only when this modification is specifically approved. I believe they are a sponsor of this board.

What is wrong with your current tube?

Regards,

Ralph

I want to experiment myself with different tubes because my throat Bb is ridiculously sharp even when I use covered fingerings and it has to be the tube because the throat A and G# play well in tune. The register vent key isn't opening too much either so its not that. My teacher also thinks something is a bit strange about this note on this instrument.

I got a call about the throat Bb on an RC Prestige A recently, with exactly the same problem you've outlined above.

On a similar matter - do Buffet even glue their speaker tubes in? Every Buffet I've worked on has had a loose speaker tube which pops out with a mere push from the inside.

....in a post some time ago i wrote that the RC register tube was cylindrical but have since discovered that i had my various R tubes mixed up- the register tube for an RC A should have an "hourglass bore"- the narrow middle section keeps the pitch of B flat + high b and c down in in pitch....
...maybe Buffet have put the standard R13 tube in- in which case the higher placement of the R tube and the more open tube would make the B flat sharper....
hope that this was helpful

Knowing of Ave Galper's patent on "register vent" tube and its research [others, more knowledgable than I, please help], I made a quickie [US]patent search, and found it, 5,241,890 [which has many {earlier} ref's. to be considered] and its citations in later pats. At least earlier, it [a kit] was available from some suppliers. I believe it was intended for Buffet improvement, but research/improvement by Leblanc and Selmer may have ended the "after-market" sales. I suggest looking into this, A N. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
