You can also get a pickup (about $10) which will only read what it is connected to (it clips onto the bell and senses vibration only).
Pretty cool if you are in a large group and want to isolate your pitch.
Of course that wouldn't fix anyone elses pitch, but is fun anyway if wondering what the pitch is.
One of my students moms who is also a Clarinet teacher got a ReedWizard from her students who collectively bought it for her.
That's one awesome gift!

Woodwind care kit - bore oil, cork grease, a bizarre chamois cloth I am supposed to use on the keys after each time I play, and, I think, something for the slide on a trombone. Selection not *too* bad for a non-musician.

Well, after several years of playing someone else's tenor sax (very unsatisactory) or playing sop clar in lieu (even more unsatisfactory) I've finally bitten the bullet this year and bought myself an early Christmas present of a mint condition "experienced" Selmer SA80 II ..(4Yrs) and it just hums !
Now, I've been asked to play it a friend's wedding next week ...New Year's Eve!! It's only for the signing of the register, but check this place out ........we certainly do great weddings here in Scotland.

.....and what am I playing ???........... "Will you Still Love me Tomorrow?" howzat for a wedding ?? But don't worry.. it's been passed by the groom's mum for the lovely tune.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes.

I got 3 clarinet CD's:
Richard Stoltzman playing Copland, Bernstein, etc.
Benny Goodman playing classical (Mozart Quintet, Bartok Contrasts, Brahms 2, Debussy Premiere Rhapsody, a Beethoven piece, and Grand Duo Weber mvt. 3)
Wolfgang Meyer playing Rossini, Verdi, Bellini, Donzenetti (sp?).
These are my first CD's from each of these clarinetists. I don't see why some people don't like Stoltzman, I think he's very good. His Copland Concerto was great! It was rather odd to hear Benny Goodman playing classically, and I'd say I prefer him in jazz, but it is still a good CD! Wolfgang Meyer was very good and I enjoyed hearing the operatic music!
I also got 2 soundtracks: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and also The Chorus (La Choriste)-it's French and it's about a boys choir (it's a really good movie!).
I also got a music note cell phone charm.
Yesterday my reeds came in from WWBW. V12's and Zonda's. I tried the Zondas for the 1st time ever and I like them a lot! I may be saying goodbye to the V12's. I don't know! I'll have to play on both kinds to be sure!
Well, Merry Christmas!

If I drill a hole through the tasty summer sausage that came in my Gift Pak, I might be able to get a sound out of it. Should I use my Greg Smith Kaspar with it or my M30?
Haven't had any clarinet-related gifts since my wife gave me a Pro-Tec double case a few years back. The family has wisely decided I'm on my own with that stuff.

Every time I acquire another nice vintage R13, I say that should be the final one.

tictactux.......this give NEW meaning to "vintage" clarinet
I always play the Bb at room temp. after letting it breathe.
The A's are best served slightly chilled.
Eefers are of course served with desert and a fine Stilton.
Basses placed in a snifter, are warmed gently, and enjoyed with a fine cigar.

I have other Bb's but most of them do not work...the LP Albert I just got a few months ago, my original Signet which is not functional due to pad weevils, and my Selmer FB Series 9 which also has a few spring issues...

I got lots of reading! Yesterday I finished Ridenour's Educator's Guide. Extremely informative and complete, yet concise enough to finish in two days (yay!), Larry Guy's reed adjustment book, and Pino's Clarinet Playing book. Bevelled-edge reed knife and a bunch of blanks through Muncy, and I believe I have a Manasse CD on the way. Oh, and another Protec case, specifically for my 'project' reeds!
Exciting stuff. Hope everyone else's gifts were as fun!

I received many things for my clarinet:
* Vandoren Optimum Ligature with silver plated cap.
-> Beautiful Ligature and it plays GREAT! My tone and projection improved greatly
* Buffet Chadash Barrel
-> Beautiful barrel. Improved tone greatly.
* K&M Clarinet Stand (3 leg)
-> Nice little stand. Pretty sturdy from my testing it out. It has to be bumped REALLY hard in order for it to fall.
* Doctor's Legend Swab
-> REALLY nice swab. The silk looks amazing and it's really absorbant. I like the rubber tip, my GEM swab's tip fell apart within months. Great quality. :-D
I say that's pretty darned good. I know it's late, but Merry Christmas everyone!

Pardon my pickiness - it's not.
It "only" is the language you use to query a data base for contents (or ask it to do something). This language is close to natural language and standardised just like the clarinet key layout is standardised (with the usual extra here and omission there, depending on the mfgr).
The engine is what actually transforms these queries into bits and bytes, fetches them from the disk etc. There is a wealth of engines to choose from, depending on wallet thickness and requirement.
Ouch. That was off-topic. My apologies.

A brand-spanking-new Yamaha YTS 875II Custom tenor sax - not the black lacquered one as originally planned as I preferred the gold lacquered one's playing characteristics when trying them against each other - it's got more grit. And a colleague of mine (a die-hard Selmer SBA player w/Florida Link) preferred the gold lacquered one when he tried them.
The black lacquered one sounded very clinical in comparison, not to say it wasn't a bad sound, but it was too clean. I wanted the gritty-sounding one.
Oh yeah, our 2nd alto player got another double sax stand that she was going to get a refund on (only the shop won't do returns) so I've made her an offer on that.

Nothing clarinet-related unless you include--
--a pair of black shoes I can wear to concerts
--a pair of leather gloves that can keep my hands warm on the way to cold-weather concerts
--a fancy mousepad I can use when visiting this site
That's not everything, just the things I can remotely associate with clarinet playing.
