 Can you identify?
Author: WesGrady

I am looking for a clarinet for my granddaughter (age 10). She is just finishing her first year of study and the one I bought her last year is causing her some grief and is clearly not a good one. I have been looking and have found one, but can't seem to get any clear idea as to what it is:

Buffet Crampon International, Ser. #666582. Is this a B12, E11, K22???

Thanks for you help, much appreciated.

Hmmm....sounds like a pro model (R-13) from the serial number. How much is the asking price? Do you intend to get your grandkid a pro horn after one year of study or are you looking for an intermediate model? Are you purchasing from Ebay or a music store?

The International is not an R-13. It is usually identified as a C-13 model.

Ok... but what is that. I have no idea as to what I am looking at, other than to identify it as a clarinet.

I did a serial number search...

It's definately an intermediate model circa 1999. I wasn't sure if the new model pro's had gotten up that high yet...but I guess not.

If you can provide the Ebay link, perhaps we can tell by the case...or you can always ask the seller (wood or plastic body, etc.)

Is this OK, GBK? Wes G - If you search EBAY via Buffet International, among the silverware you'll find 3 B I's, "yours", another similar and a 3rd bid on by "our own" clarinetgrammy, who is quite knowledgable. You might try to discuss the make/model with her . The one I tried-out some time ago was a good player, nearly bot it, but invested in Selmers and Leblancs. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
