 RE: mouthpiece stuck in barrel--help!

Heat will tend to expand the wood and make the problem worse, like an anaconda squeezing its prey. Try a knife blade, like a pocket knife, inserted between the top of the metal ring and the bottom of the mouthpiece and EVER SO GENTLY pry them apart, holding the barrel standing upright on a table and moving around in a circle so you push up all around, not just in one spot. As soon as they are far enough apart to use anything other than the knife blade, get it out of there, and use a plastic knife or ice cream stick or tongue depressor or anything that will break first before harming your horn. A couple of drops of oil in there at this point will also help loosen things up.
