I'm in Ontario too, although originally from the States. I started playing in my early teens but was self-taught, started band in Grade 11, reached the 1st clar. section early in Grade 12. After playing briefly with a community orchestra there was an extended break due to family and work. Nine years ago I started to take lessons when the kids were starting in their school's band.

At the moment I'm still taking lessons but am teaching privately now and love that end of the musical spectrum. A few of us adult semi-professionals and amateurs formed a clarinet choir four years ago. We have our first CD now and we perform wherever we can. Two pieces that we've performed were composed for us by another BB member.

Knowledge of children, music theory, performance, and assisting the band instructor by conducting clarinet sectionals for six years have allowed me to fill in an empty spot in the orchestra as volunteer Education co-ordinator. It doesn't interfere too much with my day job, although we'll see if I can get it to interfere quite a bit more. My non-musician husband puts up with all this because I go back to my other responsibilities in a better frame of mind, just as "claclaws" described above.
