Are there any fellow Australian players out there? Post if you are!

Are there any Australian clarinet communities - like forums, mailing list etc.

It's my impression that there are quite a few Australians who post here already. Never knew there were so many clarinetists down there...Peter Spriggs wrote:

Hey Alyra. Where abouts in Oz are you? I'm from Brisbane, been studying in Melbourne. Will be back in Brisbane next year though. The Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Society has a quarterly magazine that they send in the post if you are a member, and each state usually has an annual competition run through these people. Other Aussies on this board include Diz, LeWhite, Mark Pinner, Andy (who's now studying over in London) to name a few.

Adelaide here.

Used to live in Melbourne - played Clarinet/Bass Clarinet (mostly Bass Clarinet) with my school's concert band - Karingal Park SC....we played at parliament and all that stuff :-)

Haven't touched a clarinet since mid-98 and recently got offered one on free indefinate loan (I sold my clarinet when I concentreated on Bass Clarinet that the school owned, a nice new one!) so even though it's a 'cheapie' clarinet I've taken up the offer and am getting back into it. I'm finding I'm picking it up well again and it's amazing what comes back to you. If I find I am serious about gettingfully back into it, I'll look into buying a decent clarinet.

If you go back to the index page of this site, you'll find a link to the Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine, published by the Queensland society. It has some articles and links, but the last time I looked at the "discussion" page it had one question with two responses over 15 months! They talk slower up there than we thought.

Where are you? Do you live somewhere you can get to a monthly meeting of one of the state societies?

Okay, just got so bored I created a clarinet discussion list on yahoogroups. I hope this is ok to be posted here, if it's not, moderators accept my apology!

Alyra - we don't need an Australian clarinet forum ... sooner or later we'll overpopulate this one!

"Oehler system mafia, Sydney Chapter. No Buffet temptations here, they only make those funny French system thingys."

What no more Buffet Alberts? I have one from about 1915 (I believe it is) and it is great - so no more spare parts for it?

As for Oehler system - had one of those, I was seduced by all the alternate keys (15 as I recall), but I couldn't get it to play in tune with itself, so I have now returned to my 1930s Hawkes which has only12 keys. I miss all the alternate fingerings, but it's very light.
