Hello! I just wondered if anyone who uses the BBoard and lives in London or South-East England is going to the Playing Day in Kingston on Sunday 16th November?
I suddenly thought that I might be sitting next to someone whose messages I've seen on the BBoard, but I wouldn't know who they were, and it would be nice to meet them!

It's where you go and play - for a day! It's organised like a big clarinet choir, all sight-reading stuff. Great fun but exhausting!

Elizabeth - you can find out some information on the Thameside Clarinet Choir's website (<http:\\www.thameside.org>) but I think that the day may already be oversubscribed. But they run them twice a year, so if you miss this one there'll be another round about May.

Jo — I'm a yank living in England (long story). But yeah, I guess from my asking about the exam you would have thought I was in the States — I'm just not that experienced about music matters here as I have never played in the UK. Some day if I'm ever good (or brave) enough I'd like to do the exam experience (I did in the US — NYSMA — New York State's exam, but not solo).
I did email the events secretary, but just to sit and listen or follow. I'm in Cambridge, so it might be a bit of a way to travel, but I would definitely like to meet up.
I got my clarinet today from the music shop: a practically new Yamaha 26II, so I'm really pleased ![[happy]](http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/smileys/smiley12.gif) . It's really strange not to have an embouchure, but I was amazed at the fact I could actually produce notes. I've just forgotten where certain notes are ![[huh]](http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/smileys/smilie11.gif) . Bizarre. So I'll have to look at a fingering chart.
I'll be in touch if I can make the Playing Day.

Hi! Just to report on the Playing Day, for those who asked about it.
It was very good - we did loads of pieces, and there were about 70 people there. Highlights for me were an arrangement of an Octet by Krommer, two pieces called "Water Colors" by someone called (Robert? - can't remember his first name) Roden, "Bach goes to Town" by Alec Templeton and Glen Miller's "Moonlight Serenade". We also did a good-fun arrangement of Elton John's "Crocodile Rock".
Elizabeth, this is a real shame, and I kept thinking of it when I was there - several people didn't turn up through illness or other reasons, so you could have come. What a pity! We could have shared a stand in the 2nd clarinet section...

Hi Jo,
It sounds like you all had a good time. I think the pieces would have been a little too advanced for me at this stage; the director mentioned that they would like all who join in to be able to play, so next April might be better for me (2nd clarinet — that would be great!).
But yeah - a bit of a shame that they can't take 'stand-bys' as it were. Thanks for thinking of me and getting back.
