Dear BBoard Member
The International Clarinet Association (ICA) has several members from countries where money for clarinet related equipment is a real problem. Some members are unable to pay their annual dues. ICA members and others in the Adopt-A-Member Program help by sending contributions to Membership Coordinator, Rose Sperrazza. However, things like reeds, pads, cork, springs, ligatures, mouthpieces, and even inexpensive used clarinets and cases for young students are badly needed.
The political situation in many of these countries is such that requests like this, if made personally and if found out by government officials, have the potential of putting these people in trouble. However, any donated items sent as "gifts", rather than saleable merchandise, avoid customs problems.
If you can donate any of these items, they can be sent to me at the following address and I would then repackage them and send to our clarinet friends abroad. Please DO NOT send me any money. Send items or inquiries to:
Alan Stanek
1352 E. Lewis Street
Pocatello, ID 83201-4865
USA
If you have any questions, etc., I would welcome a phone call:
(208) 232-1338 or an e-mail to: stanalan@isu.edu
For any who would like to become an Adopt-A-Member partner, send an e-mail to Rose Sperrazza at membership@clarinet.org. ICA yearly dues are US$45 for regular members and US$25 for students.
Thanks in advance for your help!
CHEERS!
Alan Stanek, Past President (1996-1998)

Emeritus Professor of Music

PS: I've asked some of these people to let me write an article or something in "The Clarinet" but they have requested me not to do this. They are concerned about the potential personal political fallout that could damage or curtail their professional performance and/or teaching careers!
[Note - this thread is already closed. Please send any inquiries directly to Stan, since I can't answer them. I think this is a great idea and I know personally that Stan is an upstanding guy. Mark C.]
