My friend recently ordered a Leblanc Concerto II clarinet from one of the international retailers listed in the Leblanc website.
However, the instrument came with the normal leather hard case and a K-10M mouthpiece instead of the softcase and ED1 mouthpiece.
Has anyone bought this clarinet and gotten this case as well? Is it a mistake on the side of the manufacturer or they do come with such an option?
Thanks in advance!

Hi:
I'd check with the retailer on this and also Leblanc. I think cost wise the cases are probably a wash on the price but the Eddie Daniels MP is considerably more money than a K-10 (wanna buy a couple?...g) Also make sure the Concerto is a Concerto II, the keys I'm told are sculpted differently than the Concerto, the II has an adjustable bridge and on the bell there is a "II" below the Concerto Name. The standard Concerto's and for that matter the Opus's are going cheap-cheap! The Concerto II's are not.

well... think of it this way... there are still horns out there that havn't been sold that carry the old case and mouthpiece. I think now they come in a bam case or soemthing of the sort. Does it really matter? The deal is for the instrument, not the case.

Well "Cyso"
Seeing how WWBW's cheapest price for the EDI mouthpiece is $155- I think "icocoke12's" reason for concern is quite legitimate. The case is also supposed to be around there in price.

Hi
I checked for my friend. The instrument is confirmed a Concerto II cos of the logo and the keys.
The weird thing is, the wood is slightly brown and the grains can be seen quite clearly, so i assumed that is unstained wood? I read from the website that only the Opus series are unstained.. so its pretty confusing.
We have checked with the shop its bought from... the shop owner says its been received from Leblanc in that manner and he didn't know about the softcase or mouthpiece.
Yup...Bradley is right.... did check out the prices of the ED1 and softcase... Its worth more than the hardcase and K10M...

ok, I understand this. But once again, the case and mouthpiece are just extra's. The mouthpiece and case that came with your clarinet have been standard. They aren't obligated to put anything else of higher quality as far as mouthpiece and case are concerned. You could say the same thing about some of the older models that only have one barrel. So the company starts giving out two, does that mean the company is obligated to put in an extra barrel for all the older models for sale as well?

"Have" being the operative word. The Concerto II, Opus II, and Pete Fountain models come with something other than the K10M - or are supposed to.

Yes, they are. The Concerto II is specifically sold with:
Mouthpiece: ED1
Case: Deluxe soft-sided case
according to the Leblanc Web site listing this particular model:

If they say they're gonna put it in, then you should get it if you paid for it, simple. I'd be pissed if I didn't get everything that they quoted.

Hi:
If the dealer is unwilling to swap out the case and mouthpiece I'd call Leblanc. In my experience Leblanc is very good about things like this, They have always been very good when I've dealt with them. I'd give them a chance to swap the case and MP before I'd get too worked up over it. This was probably just an early unit before they were offering or shipping the ED-MP and soft case.
As for the wood, there is a lot of variation. My Opus is only slightly lighter than my Concerto and both have beautiful grain patterns.
BTW, how does the new Conerto II play?

Ok.. the shop promised to contact Leblanc to enquire about the case and mouthpiece... guess have to wait and see...
Well, i guess the problem is its not quoted or anything.. Its just an order for a Concerto II and it came with the older mp and case..
The wood colour of the Concerto II seems very much lighter than the original Concerto... guess they decided to stop staining the new instruments totally black?
Anyway, I think it plays quite nicely, very very smooth key mechanism!...but didn't get to try it long enough to know how it compares to other instruments...
But I think once it gets seasoned the instrument will probably change again and it will feel different? Which makes me wonder whether there is any point to extensively test new instruments to choose the "correct" one when it will change over time....

Hey guys,
I'm a new user to these boards, although I do enjoy reading the posts.
Anyways, I recently ordered a Concerto II from WWBW, I was wondering if similar situation could happen? One of the reasons I swayed to the Concerto II (I originally wanted the Opus) was because of the extras.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul:
I bought my Concerto I from WWBW and although I'm sure some people have had problems, I never have. They are in my home state, so I know where they live....g
I did a lot of shopping for all my instruments and the key is asking questions up front. Just ask, "does this Concerto II come with the soft case and ED-MP?" I've sat on the phone for some time as the salesperson clarifies an issue that I've had. I've only had one issue with a dealer and that I think was an honest miscommunication rather than an attempt to decieve anyone and they made up for the issue.
Can issues happen? Sure, we are all human, but the real issue us what folks are willing to do to make things right and 9 out of ten times dealers will do what is right. Those that don't, then just demand your money back and go elsewhere.

Thanks for reply Rick, I just haven't had the time to call WWBW up since it's the Memorial weekend (I'm not even sure if they're open). I'll try tomorrow.
Regarding the issues, I agree that most dealers will do what is right, and WWBW sounds like it knows what its doing. I'm just a little excited, I guess.
Thanks again,
Paul

Haha.. I liked my friend's one so much I got one myself too.
Realised its cheaper by about $250 than places like WWBW... so maybe its because there's no special mp or case...
But then again, since I have my own mouthpiece and prob wun be using the ED1, its good too. heh...

How do they play? Well, mine plays phenomenally. It is a wonderful instrument and makes me focus more on making music rather that trying to make the sound come through the clarinet. The others that I played in the trial process were also great, but this was the one for me. All of you should give these a try, whether you are in the market or not, just as a point of referrence. And as far as talking to leblanc about any troubles, they are some really great business people and in my experience have done nothing but help me. Have fun!

A friend bought a regular Cocerto about 3 years ago. I went over it and fixed a couple of things including a loose register key pipe. Then I looked inside and saw that they had only polished the bottom half of the top joint interior. So, I polished it to a very smooth surface. It plays very fine and sounds a lot like an R13.

Hello,
My new Concerto II arrived yesterday, and it is awesome; it looks and sounds wonderful! It came with a black BAM case and the ED mouthpiece, which are great additions to the instrument. However, I noticed that upper half of the top bore was not polished, similar to what Wes was saying. Would it be ok to keep it like this?
