Does anybody know anybody who has attended the University of South Florida's music program with a jazz concentration? If so, any comments good or bad? Thanks.
Also, anyone live in the Tampa/St. Pete area?

I live in south florida ( Miami west kendall area ), but I make a trip up to Tampa around once or twice each year 'cause my mom's brother lives there ( and my cousin was an all state flautist ). Do you live around there? If so- what part?
Sorry but I don't have any comments about the Univ. of South Florida's program, and even though I'm looking into colleges for later I haven't heard anything about the program good or bad, so that might mean something.......

I don't know much about their program, but I have head some graduates of the school perform, and they were quite good!

rockymountainbo --
In case you don't get enough information from some of the bulletin board members, here's another line to pursue. I recently ran across the web site for jazz pianist and educator, Darrell Grant (darrellgrant.com). After attending Eastman, he did graduate study in jazz theory at the University of Miami. He is now a professor at Portland State University and there are snail mail and e-mail addresses on his web site. I bet he would be willing to answer questions about UofM's program and may know (or know someone who knows) about University of South Florida's program.

Our son is looking at music education schools and we have found it is difficult to get our hands on information comparing and evaluating college music programs. What seems to work best is visiting the campus, sitting in on classes and recitals, contacting current and recent students and meeting with faculty in the performance area that interests you. If they offer a summer program or camp, you can really get a feel for the school. Best of luck to you.
