I am putting together an unaccompanied clarinet recital, and am picking pieces from around the world to give it flavor. Does anyone know of a Spanish-flavored unaccompanied piece? Thanks in advance.

Fantasia sul America by Claudio Santoro
Three Pieces by Blas Atehortua
Both can be heard on the Fantasia sul America CD with clarinetist Luis Rossi.
There are also several pieces for solo instrument by Piazzolla.

Speaking of Latinesque pieces, Paquito d'Rivera on at least two of his jazz CDs that I'm aware of, plays a few short unaccompanied clarinet pieces which I believe are based on folk tunes -- they're really nice -- I'm afraid I don't have their names handy -- one of them, as I recall, is a mini-suite of three very short pieces. If you can't find them let me know off-line and I'll check around at home for the names of the pieces and the recordings they're on.

I have a written transcription of Valse Criollo (trad.), by Paquito D'Rivera. It's beautiful, challenging, and short. I don't know if they are on the above mentioned CD's. I like the Cinco Bocetos as well.

The suite of three short pieces by Paquito that I have on my CD are called something like "Danzas Characterista" or something like that, I believe. I'd venture that anything he has written for clarinet is worth investigating.
