I just read in my (Thur) morning paper that RS will be performing in our University of Wisconsin's Union Theater (Madison) on April 10th. His accompanist will be the very capable, Emanuel Ax, who has also made numerous appearancies in our town. I am going and will let y'all know how He does.
(just occurred to me that he really is bringing his Ax to the gig :>)

At least one of the duo will have a pleasing sound.
(here we go again)
RS used to play with a pleasing tone......old recording of Rossini TandV...but now its that whoooshy tone with tremolo vibrato. Yeah he gets all the notes and the phrasing is personalized and not displeasing, but the sound is like that of a second year student trying to imitate a jazz tone. Thats MHO and dats da twuth.....pfffffffft.

CPW:
Why be rude? You are entitled to your opinion, and far be it from me or anyone else to tell you otherwise. However, Stoltzman has, no doubt, worked very hard and diligently to achieve what he perceives to be a good clarinet sound. It is a sound concept which works for him, and one which many people around the world happen to like.
If you don't like his tone, that's fine--I happen to not care for his particular sound. And I also don't see a need to be rude and insulting to a person who has put in the time and effort that it takes to make it in this rather fickle entertainment/music industry. We should be so lucky as to have what he has EARNED.
Cheers,
Mitch King
