Nice set of Bb, A and C Selmers
Author: Brenda Siewert

If you're a fan of Selmer Series 9s, here's a nice looking set on eBay you might want to check out. I don't know the seller, but he says he's a professional clarinetist. My only beef with the Series 9 is the intonation quirks--especially the Bb and throat tones. But, they can be quite nice and I found the C very interesting. It looks like he might be missing one of the tuning barrels. If I were going to bid on it I would ask about it before doing so.

How many of us are in the market to buy a set like this all at once. Wouldn't he be better off breaking the set into 3 pieces and sell them off one at a time.@

I would expect that these clarinets are going to need some repairs. They may not be worth more than his starting price.

Brenda,

My name is Ed Maurey. I'm the seller of those Series 9 Selmers. Thanks for the posting! I certainly appreciate it. Actually, we have met over the phone several years ago. As I remember, you told me a story about LBJ. You had sold me a Buffet barrel, and I returned it to you for some reason or another.

To get two things straight: I'm not a professional musician...just a very experienced clarinetist. And, the throat tones on all three of these instruments are gorgeous. They're in tune, strong, clean and tonally very satisfying.

They are in excellent playing condition. I suggest that anyone interested should download the "Super Size" picture onto their computer's picture viewer and the zoom in. The horns are immaculate.

Ed, I vaguely remember the deal. I didn't have too many people return stuff--Bob Gardner returned something to me once as well. He ended up with a high dollar Charles Bay mouthpiece for a Leblanc K10M price. So, hopefully you were happy. But enough on that.

What about selling the C by itself even though you made that nice case for them? Bob is right about being able to get a better price--and if you look at the discussion board for the last several days you'll notice that Bob and several others are intersted in buying a C.

And, speaking of your C. Tell us a bit about the characteristics of the Selmer Series 9 C clarinet.

Oh, as for the LBJ story--I don't remember which one I told you, but since I was born in Fredericksburg, Texas (just a short drive from Johnson City) and my parents lived in Kerrville. LBJ hung around that area a lot before his days in Congress and later the Senate and Presidency. There are a lot of stories about him that my dad and his friends could tell. He used to come to my dad's barber shop when he was campaigning. Gotta love those Texas presidents.

Dear boys & girls:

Please remember to keep the selling "chit chat" in personal emails rather than the BBoard; Ed, there's the "no self-promotion" rule and you're precariously close.
