Today I tried out some professional clarinets and I was very disappointed with the Yamaha Custom CSVR and the Custom CS. They sounded no better than my plastic Buffet B12 but for a higher price. Brand new CS was having over-tone-ing issues (not a word, I apologize), when my fingers were firmly planted on the keys. Overall mediocre, too bright sound, and was extremely disappointed. So, why do you choose Yamaha over something better, like a Buffet or Selmer?

This should probably be in the BB and not the sale section. I would offer some thoughts, but would rather do so in the right forum

I have been impressed by all the Yamahas I tried. I used to have a YCL-650 (which I'm still convinced is the intermediate clarinet with the best price/performance ratio on the market), I tried the CSGIII and have in the end settled for a pair of used 846/856 clarinets (which replaced an older Buffet R13 I used to own). So yeah, my experience has been the complete opposite (although I haven't tried the CS model that you mention).
