i'm looking to see which mouthpiece will give me a loud shrill sound. my B45 is good, but need something louder. which would be better then, metal or crystal? or if there is a better meterial? also wondering for those who are marching bands, anyone going on the MACBDA tour next year?

Metal is much easier to project with, but if you're looking for something more cost-effective, go for a hard rubber mouthpiece like a meyer CMR10M designed especially for jazz clarinetists. I used to have a crystal mouthpiece, I didn't notice much of a difference in the volume of sound. I quit using it because it grossed me out to see my spit going through it... :)

Just realized you might not be a clarinet player... sorry. But I played alto sax in jazz ensembles at my college and I use a meyer mouthpiece. I wanted a metal one, they are a little better, but the meyer one was much cheaper and is pretty good. But if you have a bunch of money to burn, go for the metal.

I have B40 , 5RV and M15 mouthpieces for my clarinets, but do not have a B45. From my experience and comparison in the past, the 5RV produces the loudest sound when using the same reed and ligature on the same clarinet.

Usually a metal ligature produces louder sound than the "fibre or cloth" ligature.
