I just started playing E-flat clarinet because we needed one for a piece we're playing in my high school wind ensemble. I've found that my tone does not seem to be as nice on this instrument as compared to my B-flat tone. Any advice on how i can improve it? Thanks in advance!

if heard the E-flat soprano being called the beast. it is harder to tune and requires a smaller embouchure. try to raise your air speed, and a firmer embouchure. unless its the alto clarinet. then that i know far less about.

Yea, the Eb can be nasty. You'r going to have to adjust your embouchure a bit. Players who switch from alto to Soprano sax or flute to piccolo also have to make adjustments. But also be aware that there are certain notes on the Eb that are inherently out of tune that aren't on a Bb clarinet. For example E4-F#4.

Some instruments you have to get used to before you can do anything with the tone, maybe a new reed later or a new mouthpeice??? By the way I'm trying to buy an e flat clarinet and i cannot find one anywhere!! Can anyone give me pointers on where to look??? Thanx!
