What would be the best clarinet for a 1st year student which has great potential to advance? I am looking for one for my junior which is on a budget of approximately $1500. Expectations are Le Blanc, Yamaha, or Buffet or
Selmer. Any other suggestions on brands or models?

the current good student clarinet costs about $300, e.g.the vito 7212, buffet b12, b10. There is no need to buy a horn costs $1500.

I have a Bundy 577, it can take me all the way past university. some brands not in the big 4, can give you very good sound. try out some models in your local music shop to see which they have. not all models have expensive to be great. Look for what is good and what you can get your hands on. selmer and buffet are probably your best bet. but even those can be bad, ALWAYS play test before you buy. pads maybe old and worn or some keys out of alignment. hope this helps.

Whatever you get, it should be a plastic clarinet, no matter how much potential the kid has. Never buy a beginner a wood clarinet. They will use the plastic clarinet in marching band. A functional plastic clarinet in good working order for a few hundred dollars is all you need. Save your money. And never get rid of the plastic one.

I'm a music teacher and I don't even have a $1500 clarinet yet- can you adopt me? 
Actually reading the other posts, I agree with them. A buffet or a yamaha would be my choice. I actually usually reccommend Yamaha to my beginning band students. Yamaha is more of a clear, standard, very few variations in the line sort of instrument. Buffets usually have a deeper tone, but can have more variation in the line.

I played my first clarinet, a Romeo Orsi made of ebonite in Milan, Italy, everywhere inluding symphony from 1935 to 1963, when I could afford to buy a pair of Buffets. The Orsi played as well or better than the Buffet.

The best clarinet that I have played would be a Buffet Crampton E-11. It is just a great instrument over all. You should be able to get this instrument for about $600.

I have had a Buffet Clarinet since 5th grade. I'm in high school now and I still use it for concerts/marching band competitions. It works fantastically so I'd say that if you're sure you're going to stick with it, get a buffet but they're pretty expensive. If you're undecided on how long you'll play go with another model.

well, i know the Harmony clarinets are around $299 for all instruments besides saxaphone. they are the colored ones like green and purple.
