Ok I'm doing this because Torus asked.. I'm not sure how well it will be but here we go:

Yeah, of all the woodwinds, the flute remains the biggest mystery for me, so this should be interesting.

It could be either of these. It's a personal preference. If you're going by COST of these materials, put platinum on the list. Gold gives more warmth to a sound, while silver gives more projection and different tone colors. You can also mix the two. I prefer silver myself.
4. What does a heavy-wall headjoint do?
D. Makes the tone dark and rich
5. What note is the gizmo key used for?
E. Any note above high C (or high C)
The gizmo key isn't necessary though, you can get these pitches without it.

C. Outdoor perfomances- depends. . . I guess you mean plastic here, but if the weather isn't bad, I'd use wooden.

well, he wrote 2, one in G Major and one in D Major.

wow, this one is tough. I wouldn't exactly come up with any of these off the top of my head. And it's MilwaUkee. And they definately don't make flutes. A lot of cheese and beer though. I'm going to guess Boston, because Powell flutes are made about half an hour away from there.
11. approximatly how many octives can a flute flay?
C. 3
D. 4
It's about 3 and a half, from B1 to F4
Bonus: how many years have I been playing flute? Hmm. I have no clue. 5 years?

11) Most people can play 3 octaves(c)and I know a flute can play 4(d) so it depends on each person, i don't know about 5 octaves though, but the flute probably can

Hum...taking a shot...
1. B, Flute and picc are in C (as much as C can be, without arguing with Torus's logic), and Alto flute is in G I believe

5. C, a High Bb i think (i just asked my friend this today)
6. Wooden piccolos (like Gemeindharts with no lip plate) are for Orchestras, Silver Piccolos are for marching bands, and Plastic Piccolos are for Outdoor for Performances

1. B- Flute and Picc are in C, alto in G.
2. B. The Boehm system. Before Theobald Boehm redesigned the flute, it had eight keys. His system had interlinked rods and stuff to allow more combos of keys to be played, thus also increasing the range of the flute. He also started making flutes out of metal instead of wood.
3. Ok, so this one was a little iffy. The realistic answer was
A. Silver. If your James Gallway and can spend lots of money, maybe gold would be better, but im not that rich, sorry :p.
4. A heavy-wall headjoint
D. Makes the tone dark and rich.
5. The gizmo key is used for
D. High C. A gizmo key is found only on B-foot flutes. It closes up the extra key on the end when you play high C (in flute terms, High C meaning two octives above the staff). The extra key is not on C foots, therefore you will never find a gizmo key on a C-foot flute.
6. ~ Wooden piccolo - A. Orchestras. Wood gives the piccolo a sweeter, mellower sound, and enables it to better blend in with other instrumentalists.
~silver piccolo - B. Marching bands. Silver is best for projection, and on a field helps the piccolo to be better heard.
~plastic piccolo - C. Outdoor perfomances. Kind of an imitation wood type thing. Wood is not good to use in unstable enviroments, such as outside (rain, intense heat, ect). However, plastic is still less piercing then silver.
7. Ok, another iffy one. The answer was supposed to be
False, Y-arms are NOT better then pointed arms. However, I didn't say what better meant. French pointed arms are more professional, and are claimed to place the key more precisly over the hole. Y-arms are less precise, but are more sturdy and are used in student models.
8. Which is not a famous flutist?
A. Massenet. I think he (she?) is a violen player or something (oops!).
9. True, Mozart wrote conceretos for flute. I'm playing one of them as a try-out piece for regional orchestea.
10. E. Bosten, Massachusetts is famous for flute crafters.
11. C. The flute can play approx. 3 octives C to C. some flutes can go down to B, and it's actually possible to go up to F!! I have NEVER seen ANY music anywhere go above a C two octives above the staff before... and besides, anything abouve a C just sounds nasty.
Bonus: I have been playing flute for 6 years

about your question 9, mozart wrote two concerto for flute:
concerto no.1 in G major KV 313,concerto no. 2 in D major KV 314 and a concerto for flute and harp KV 299.
I don't know if people think that 3 works can be said as "many". Anyway , thanks very much for making this quiz.

No, three works in this case especially doesn't count as many, since Mozart wasn't shy about his dislike of the flute in the first place.

Shostakovich - Ballet suite No. 5 from 'The Bolt' Op. 27A (1931) for one goes up to a D4 in the first few bars... Both 1st and 2nd. Played another piece in my orchestra with a D4 in it but i can't recal wich.. Pretty sure there are several other pieces
