Flute not sounding - gone crazy !

Dear All,
My flute appears to have gone crazy so I need help and advice ! I have a traverse metal Yamaha flute that although I have only been playing since Jan. 2003, I have found the notes in the first octave easy to blow. Recently, and in particular last Thursday, I was working on the sounds at the top end of the second octave that I was mastering quite well. I had a keypad that was sticking at the end of my seesion so I put a little water on a handkerchief and pressed down the key pad on to it and thus cleaned the pad. I then dried the pad by closing the key on to a cigarette paper.

Friday evening, yesterday, I set about playing when I got back from work. I could easily get the left hand notes down to sol (G4). But when I put down the index finger of the right hand for fa (F4) the flute didn't ring, it sounded out of breath. By blowing harder it went immediately up to F5/F6 (as checked with the frequency meter). The lower part of the first octave has just disappeared! I have looked at the flute from all angles and I cannot see anything sticking or ... IDEAS and ADVICE please. HELP ! Thanks.

A very frustrated flute player as of last night !

I'm not sure what happened. . . but DON'T PUT WATER ON OR NEAR YOUR PADS. It could be that water got in to your mechanism. Which pad did you "clean?"

I suspect that there is a leak in the pad of the right hand F key. Take it to a repair technician for checking.

never ever ever put water on your pads... ever... i would bet thats whats wrong with it, check that pad very carefully and make sure its not loose or fallen out.
