Is it possible to get a low A, below the staff on a flute?I have read there is nothing lower than a B or possibly a B flat. I have music to On Eagle's Wings for piano--which I really want to play--but and it includes a below the staff A in the key of D. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Nope. The lowest note on the standard flute is a B.

I suggest playing the whole piece an octave higher, if possible.

yeah, i agree with carolyn, or else just play the specific notes that are written too low an octave up ~ that's what I have to do with music like some we played last year, my oboe doesn't have the Bb key, so I had to play my low Bb's an octave higher

In general, the lowest note on a woodwind instrument is when all the holes along the tube are covered up. If your fingering for low Bb covers all the holes, then you can be sure that there is no way of fingering a lower note, such as A.

You could always transpose up a few semitones. This way you don't lose much of the muscality in the process.
