 About oboe speaker bushings...

About two years ago I ran across a fine-crafted, stunning
Triebert Systéme 3 reissue oboe. Being a self taught oboist
(although my day job is luthier-repairman on strings and woodwind) I've always been interested in vintage or even
out-of-date instruments. This one is puzzling me with a
little problem I'd like to get rid of.
The original speaker key (fully...manual!) bushings are
damaged by the fumbling of the former owner. Now, I've found replacements and they fit well home, but the bottom
protrudes thru the bore of 3mm. Should this be so?
Help welcome, especially from skilled elder repairmen!
Thank you all.
