I've been playing the flute for about 4 years now, and next year im going into high school. I though it would be a good idea to have a piccolo on hand since im going to be int he marching band, but those things cost alot these days. So i've come across a good deal for a Bb flute. The problem is, I have not the slightest clue how to play one of those things! And are they easy to play? help! lol

ive never heard of a Bb flute i thought that all flutes were in C

All flutes are not in C. The b flat flute has 4 holes on the footjoint so you can produce lower notes. it goes i pitch and a half lower than the c flute which is most common. Mostly professionals or students who need an upgrade get flutes with a b foot.

There is no need for a Bb flute. Music never goes that low unles you are playing weird stuff. becides low C and C# is hard enought to hear people with a low B flute the B is even harder to hear what is the possibility that a low Bb would be able to hear it any better? Becides Bb Flutes are very hard to come accrost and cost alot of money. A Dr. of Flute told me that the low Bb foot is useles. In her appinion. Only the most extreem pros need it to play thoes low Bb's in weird music.

Ok im slightly confused, the C Flute as the same Scales as the Trombone(which is in a key of Bb) and doesnt a flutes writtwen note sound like a Bb?
