 tendonitis from pads not sealing
Author: Diane Bouska

This is for the enlightenment of all beginners like me--I made a big discovery: I wrote earlier about a problem with my right thumb. I thought I was just gripping too hard because of having to hold down the Eb key. Turned out the flute pads were swollen because I don't dry out my flute (just stand it up when I'm done). The pads weren't sealing well, and I was squeezing harder and harder to get a good sound, without knowing why till my thumb got a touch of tendonitis. I was getting frustrated with my sound, first thought I was getting lazy with my embouchure, finally noticed the F key wasn't working well, and called the repairman. That's when he gave me the scoop! I will be drying out my flute from now on!
