I want to know what a little x by a note means. I think it
means double sharp, but how do you play it on the flute?

The x symbol does mean double sharp. It is just
a semitone higher than a sharp so it is a whole
tone higher than the named note.
Thus, C double sharp is D. E double sharp is F sharp.
Simple!
There are technical reasons why the composer uses
a double sharp occasionally, but you don't need
to know what they are to read the music.
