 I was wondering if any clarinet players here own a Vandoren Optimum ligature. Are they worth the money? I'm thinking about getting one from musiciansfriend.com

 i own one, a silver, not gold though.  the "list prices" are wrong though.  from the suppliers in my own city, aren't close to that, and mine are canadian dollars.  they have super-inflated the prices.  check with a store in your local music store, and see what the price that thye can get it at.  often a music dealer can give you a better price then a website, and you can actually see and test what you are getting.  on another note, the prices you can buy them at seem reasonable, and could be a deal.  always be wary of websites.  Vandoren optimum ligs have 3 pressure plates which do give you a different sound.  they are worth more in my opinion.  but to the amount you want to spend is up to you.  you can get a two screw system of lig and spend $4 for one, or $15 for a meterial lig(rovner is an example of one of these).  hope this helps.

 Thanks. But most of the time in US ...music stores in my area don't carry the products i look at on the internet so i have to order offline. Like the Rover Eddie Daniels II Ligature. I have a regular Rovner ligature but it's wearing away. And I need a new one. And this ligature (vandoren optimum) is 34.99 (without the cap..with cap like 60.00) on musiciansfriend.com and giardinelli.com (it's sister site). Maybe it's a good bye..i mean it comes with the pressure plates and and all.
