it wouldn't be that much harder the oboe and sax practically finger the same but the oboe is one of the hardest instrument to play-- but if you want a challengethen try it (even though you probably don't care-- i would rather play bassoon)

i double on sax and oboe (and also flute and clarinet) and i find that oboe and sax are at two completely different ends of the spectrum. the only thing they really have the same is the conical bore, heh. the sax is a lot less resistant while the oboe is the most resistant woodwind. the double reed is a pain in the butt, and i find sax to be the easiest of the woodwinds, and the oboe the hardest (but thats just personal opinion). but i think its definatly worth a try. i love both, and i now play alto sax with jazz ensemble, and oboe with wind ensemble and orchestra.

I play oboe and bassoon on concert band and alto sax on marching band. To me, the only difference in the oboe and the sax are the different embouchures. When I started playing sax two years ago, I had to get adjusted to dropping my jaw more in contrast to the oboe. Now because of practice I can play both well. In my opinion, the only reason why the oboe is harder to play than the sax is because on the double reed. The can be very aggravating. Maybe thats why more people play sax than oboe but both still need a lot of practice.
