I just started to work on altissimo fingerings and stuff for the alto sax and I could use some tips on how to get that high of a sound out of my sax.

Well, for Saxophone, you have to have a tight embechoure, a really good reed, or you have to slightly bite on the reed. The only trouble with biting the reed is to keep them in tune. But other than that, just keep practicing and they will come naturally.

The altissimo are a matter of patient and effort. You must use a lot of air and support from you diafragm. Also you must have to do a strong embouchure in order to get those high notes and use the fingering provided by this web site.

For learning the altissimo register, it's extremely important to hear the pitch you want to produce BEFORE you attempt to play it. This is very similar to what brass players must do all the time. This is also the "hidden" benefit of practicing the altissimo register, because it forces you to do this. Good players then learn to apply this principle to their playing generally, and it makes a world of difference. It's true that some fingerings are better than others, and some work on certain makes of saxophone and not others, etc.., but if you're only concentrating on the mechanics of fingerings and reeds, this will be very frustrating. Get a hold of the Rascher or Rousseau books, and be very very patient with your progress. You should see some good results after several months.

hey, if you wanna learn how 2play in the altissimo range, learn how 2play overtones. i'm only a student but i've seen many forums and everyone says you should learn overtones before altissimo. just start by doing the low Bb fingering and then play the low Bb. add the octave key and just blow and you should play a middle Bb. firm up your embochure and you should be playing a F natural. everything higher you just have to do trial and error. moving my lower jaw forward seems to work good for me. also for the overtones, practice w/the low B and low C fingerings too. hope that helps!
