I am playing clarinet, alto sax, and bass clarinet in a show in a couple of weeks. I have a bass clarinet stand, but I've always borrowed a sax stand before and I think it's time to get one of my own. I am borrowing a very very nice saxophone, so I'm concerned about making sure the stand is sturdy enough that it won't fall over or get scratched up. With that in mind...
Has anyone tried the Protec saxophone stand listed on WWBW? Is it worth $70 ($60 plus a $10 clarinet peg)?
I looked at the other options, but the Hamilton seems flimsy and the Mainline seems bulky. Are there any others I should consider?

Hi HRL,
I followed your link and the Hercules stand does look interesting. Some things that are not clear from the picture: (1) are the legs and arm square metal tubing (and hollow steel or solid aluminum?) (2) It looks like the legs lock into place with those spring-loaded snaps. Is that correct? Or is there something else that keeps the legs locked?
I've used a Hamilton stand for alto or tenor playing (and also use the flute and clarinet pegs) for several years of big band and pit playing. It's not as flimsy as it looks. And as HRL notes for the Hercules stand, the clarinet peg can also be used for oboe. My flute peg is a little thicker and the oboe tends to bind up on that one.

Hi Mike,
Yes, spring loaded in two places (bell ring and where the arm snaps up from the base). Square steel, hollow stock. This is an industrial-strength stand with all attachment of bolts with hex nuts.

I have been useing the belmonte stands for years and never had a problem. I think they are more in the $40 range

I use a Hercules bari sax stand for my bass sax as it is slightly more stable than my Stageline bari stand. My wife uses an On-stage stand but we both hide the instruments from the walkway and there isn't a time when one of us isn't babysitting our five to seven instruments in the pit.
