 James and the Giant Peach

MTI has just licensed this. A nearby youth theatre is doing it in March. Bret Pimentel's website lists 4 reed books with the instrumentation, MTI lists only 3 reed books but without the specfic instrumentation which I am guessing makes for a much different instrumentation. Does any one know the instrumentation of the 3 MTI rental reed books?

I played this show this past summer. There were three reed books when I played it. They are (roughly) as follows:
R1: Picc, Flute, Clarinet, Soprano Sax, Alto Sax
R2: Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, Tenor Sax
R3: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet (low Eb is fine), Bari Sax (low A required), and Bassoon

Could have almost guessed the instrumentation. Thanks for the info.

What book did you play? Are the books difficult or average. Did you like the music and orchestrations? How long is the show? I did read somewhere that the flute part has a few tricky spots. I've been asked to play this show, but it is only for one weekend and my schedule does not allow a lot of independent reh. time.
Easy-peasy ala - The Sound Of Music? Moderate, per Shrek, or some extra woodshedding, like Bye Bye Birdie?

Thanks!

I played reed 1. I would put it in the moderate category. Not as easy as most Rodgers and Hammerstein shows BUT nothing like West Side Story or my next show, the RSC version of The Wizard of OZ.
