 IDRS subscription

Hello,
I am new here, I am also new to playing the bassoon.
That is to say, I have just completed my first year (successfully :-)
at the local municipal music academy.
Looking for interesting information, I wonder if an IDRS subscription
would be useful for the beginning bassoonist that I am.
It is not easy to judge this from their website since I can't see the content
of the periodic publications.
The first place to ask this question would of course be the IDRS itself and
I did, but I never got an answer --(
Thanks in advance for your comments and insights.
Willy

Hi Willy.....

First of all, let me apologize for you not getting an answer!! I can't speak for all of the IDRS, but I can assure you that if I saw your query, I would respond.

I think that an IDRS subscription would be great.....and I think if you want it even cheaper, you can get the journals on line only and save a little more money that way. People contribute all kinds of bassoon and oboe info.....
all the way from jokes....to a scholarly approach on how to play a major Shostakovich bassoon solo.

However, if you feel like the subscription is too much you can certainly join the IDRS Facebook page......you (and no else here) has to be a member to participate....
https://www.facebook.com/groups/idrsemail/

You (and everyone else here) can also look at (but not join or post) at our bulletin board if you aren't a member.
http://www.idrs.org/IDRSBBS/

Maybe a good strategy would be to use both of those sources for several month and then decide if it's worth your while to join. (At some point if you become serious about the instrument, you should think about signing up.) I must point out that some very well known double reed players don't belong to the IDRS, and there is no requirement that they do so.

May I ask what country you are in? (We do have people who sponsor members if they need financial assistance.)

Sincerely,

Hello,
Thanks for the response. It took a while before I read it, sorry.
In the mean time, I have decided to join the IDRS as a student, but I will
wait until the end of the year so I can have a full subscription period.
I wasn't aware of that the IDRS has a Facebook page, sounds interesting.
Sincerely,
Willy
