kia ora to all
as i write i am listening to one of the new CDs i managed to collect on my reccent trip away.... somehow i was unable to resist YET ANOTHER version of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto as it only cost 4 euro and included the concerto by Franz Pokorny (which i was unfamiliar with). The Clarinetist is Gerard Schlotz, with the Brixi Chamber orchestra of Prague directed by Christoph Meister.
Despite some intonation problems in the Mozart Rondo, i have nothing but praise for this recording- really really musical playing from all concerned. I will certainly look out for other recordings by Gerard Schlotz, i am particauly impressed by his performance of the Mozart 1st mvt. Schlotz studied with Thomas Friedli and teaches at the Conservatory of Music in Geneva, and his Mozart performance includes some uncommon octave transpositions (presumably) intended to make the "normal clarinet" version more like the "basset clarinet" version.
This CD is on a label called "Diem classic" and the catalogue number is DIM 6109-2
keep playing the good tunes

I met Gerard when I studied in Geneva. He is a fine player. He spends most of his time teaching high school students, and hasn't been able to get an orchestral position. Just shows you how difficult it is to get a job these days!
