 Hi...

Hi, everybody

My name is Kim and I attend Western Connecticut State University. I am a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree candidate and play the clarinet. (I was the anonymous poster)

I have been playing the clarinet for 13 years. Ever since 4th grade. I like playing the clarinet because of the tone quality.

The hardest thing for me(and biggest pet peeve) is technique. I mean play this way, or else. I just can't play the chromatic scale: E-G(altissimo) without flubbing. Oh, well.

I play on an R-13 with a B40 mouthpiece, Bonade regular ligature, and Vandoren 4 reeds. My favorite clarinet piece is Mozart because of the themes and difficulty.

I have played second chair second in both my university's Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.

My favorite band/wind ensemble pieces are Carmina Burana, Tempered Steel, Blue Shades, La Forza del Destino, and La Fiesta Mexicana. Many of the Grainger pieces, such as, Handel in the Strand and Lincolnshire Posy take my vote.

Happy New Year.

Kim

I was a late bloomer...I didn't start till I was a Sophomore in high school! I took lessons from the band teacher (a bassoon player) over the summer, and when school started in the fall, I took my place as the 3rd clarinet. There were only 20 people in the band, so we were one to a part, with only three clarinets in the band. I loved to play and practice, and I made it to all state my senior year. Then I went to college and majored on clarinet for two years. I still took lessons from my teacher until about 4 years ago when he moved out of state and he died about two years after that. I play in four local band/symphony groups and in a quartet. Still loving every minute of it!

I like the Grainger too, and the English Folk Song Suites. Love the Mozart, and the Weber Concertino.

Happy New Year!

hmm, I don't really have a story to tell yet, I'm too young. But, I noticed that Susan likes the English Folk Song Suites. Glad to hear that someone likes them, we're playing them in band next year and I haven't heard good nor bad about them.
