Hey all,
I have a friend of a friend whose having some hectic problems with her clarinet, I was wondering if you guys could give her some advice and those of us in NYC to refer an excellent calrinet repairman,

Well, basically the issue is that on my upper register (over the break.. not all the way up there!!!) my "e" "f" and sometimes my high "g" doesn't come out. And i know its not me or the reed, cuz i tried a friend of mines clarinet (which is brand new) and i played perfectly fine, so that's when i knew it was the horn. I was told that the keys were a little raised so perhaps that may have something to do with the notes not coming out. but that's about it as far as my clarinet issue goes... Thank you for taking an interest, i really do appreciate it!! :-)

I would highly recommend Perry Ritter for your friend's repair needs. Perry works in Manhattan on 55th street between 6th and 7th avenue (closer to 7th avenue, a few steps down a small ramp on the south side of the street). He works on many pros players (orchestra, Broadway, jazz and studio musicians) horns. He does great work at very reasonable prices and really takes the time to find out what is wrong with the horn without doing more than is needed.

The is also Jimmy Yan who on works on many of the top players' horns, but he is much more expensive and probably Ritter or Komsta would be more appropriate for your friend.

Watch out for Jimmy Yan, I've noticed that he doesn't always do his bestg work for those who aren't big names. and he's expensive.

I have not had any problems with Jimmy Yan's work on my instruments, actually, the work was quite good; very specialized and specific to my needs.
I recommended the other repairmen ahead of JY because of the quality of their work, the instrument in question belonged to a student and the student could probably get the needed work at a lower price.
