 Clarinet trio recommendations

With a son in eight grade and a very talented daughter in her freshman year in college, I thought it would be nice to work on some trios together. Any recommendations? There appears to be quite a bit out there and I don't know where to start. My daughter can handle grade 6 pieces without too much problem, and my son can do a grade 4 with some practice. I'm in the middle.

Thanks in advance.

Dale: I have both a clarinet trio and quartet and for trio work, I would highly recommend Jacques Bouffil trios. These are for three
soprano Bb clarinets and can be purchased at most publishing firms.
Luyben, Eble, Pepper, etc. Some of these might be a little advance for your son. They are great pieces of music and vewry enjoyable to play.

If you can find it: Six Little Marches by CPE Bach arranged by Wadham Sutton. Novello & Co. Ltd. Should be perfect. The third part is generally easier than the first two.

Rustic Dances by Vaclav Nelhybel, J. Christopher Music Co., is probably about grade 4.

One of my favorite Trios is Suite (3 clarinets) by Arnold Cooke, Emerson Edition. Some of this will probably be too hard for your son now, but if he progresses like your daughter he may be ready for it in a year or two.

Dale -

At the back of the Langenus Method, Part 3, there's a transcription for 3 clarinets of the Beethoven Trio for 2 Oboes and English Horn. The finale is pretty quick for the top part, but the other parts are definitely negotiable, and it's terrific music.

Best regards.
