Hi all,
Is anyone familiar with "Chiaroscuro, Symphonic Dances in Shades of Light and Dark" by Robert Sheldon? It's a recent publication for band, only out earlier this year I think. The bass clarinet part has several huge solos in the first half of the piece, that more than make up for all the years I've spent playing oom-pah parts in band. But it's a real bear, with complicated rhythms that are made worse by odd notations.
If anyone has played this piece, do you have any suggestions? It's one of those where I'm pretty sure I'll be able to appreciate it once I get a better sense of the structure of the music, but I'm not at that point yet. Can anyone point me to a recording? I haven't been able to find one.
The director of our community band has decided to challenge us with more contemporary and difficult music. He's certainly succeeding with this piece. I think it will be cool when we can get it together, but it's still very much a work in progress.
Thanks,
Jen L.
