Hello,
I'm a freshman clarinet performance major and looking into some sort of summer festival orchestra and not exactly sure where to start. My prof. suggested Spoleto and Eastern, but he also told me to look around, as well. I know there are tons of festivals out there and a lot of them would probably be better for me in about 2 years... I'm not exactly sure I want to be buried under graduate students just yet. :oP Any advice on festivals for the younger undergraduate?
I did search this board, but didn't really come up with anything too helpful.
Good Clarineting,
Amanda

Um, I looked into Spoleto a couple of years ago, just to see what it took to get in, and from the information I gathered, they only take professionals. I do remember reading that they only consider players that have been playing professionally for at least three years. I hope I'm wrong.
Here's a link for summer fests.

A few of the big ones are: Aspen, Tanglewood, Music Academy of the West, Pacific Music Festival, and Sarasota Music Festival.
Good luck,

Hello!
I went to a summer musical festival in Brevard, NC. It was really fun and is geared for highschool and college students. It has some fabulous ensembles and guest performers and conductors. It was THE musical experience that changed my life!

Good luck finding a great musical experience for the summer!
