Time to take it back to that antique stire and say "I'll give it to you for $850, <b>you</b> can sell it at $1100"

Ah, the pleasure of cultural swapping. You get The Antiques Roadshow, we get The Simpsons and The Sopranos. Seems fair.

Have you had the downmarket versions yet? Z-list microceleb presenters and members of the great unwashed rooting around for bargains at yard sales. *Shudder*

We call these people 'scrubbers'.

I think the seller of this instrument actually thinks it's a "calrinet".

Perhaps they meant to spell it cauldronet -- something a monster musician would use to stir the cauldron

My opinion of the Antiques Roadshow has just dimmed by about two orders of magnitude.

one person's treasure is another man's junk--or is it the other way around?

It would have been worth 11,000 USD if they had left the original finish on the surface. A lesson for you kiddies... never NEVER clean your instrument.

The Antiques Roadshow has rooned grudge sales for scrubbers like me.

PS Morrigan - You keep paying retail, it makes the economy GO.

He David? We avoid washing to keep the way clear of toits, geddit?

How many of the posters taunting this seller will try to unload a ten-year old tatty R13 for $1650 when new ones are $1400?

"Well MINE was hand-picked, and played IN professionally."

The owner ended the auction and relisted it at $55, a realistic price. As Richard Feynman said, never attribute to malevolence what can be adequately explained by stupidity. In this case, never attribute to madness what can adequately be explained by a typographical error. It's dollars to doughnuts the original opening price was intended to be $85.

Sorry to be the wet blanket.

TKS for the referenced quote, Ken, it caused me to look in my [PB] Bartlett's [shorter], which has a number of applicable "pithy" quotes also!! Don
