 Artie Shaw Concerto
Author: William
Date:   2002-10-12 14:51

I have just been advised by Herbert, of Fest-Musik-Haus, that the band accompaniment, formerly offered for sale, is not longer available. F-H-M's source in Germany has "just" learned that the transcription of this work is not cleared by the copyright owners for sale in the United States.

This is a follow-up of an earlier posting promising to "let you all know how it went" after I recieved it. Back to the practice room..........

William,
A student who I work with recently attended a concert at the University of Minnesota, Morris and the jazz ensemble played the Artie Shaw Concero. I can try to find out about the arrangement if you are interested,
Jean

Check Artie on "Second Chorus" with Fred Astaire for a nice version of it .....

D Dow--I own a copy of the film, "Second Chorus"--what a "riot" to watch. To bad Artie's Orchestra did not get to play more of the Concerto in that film. You probably also already know that He considered the whole idea of the movie scene, featuring the Concerto for Clarinet, "preposterous" as it wasn't the norm for the big bands, back then, to give concerts where poeple sat down and listened quietly. Their music was the pop music of the times and mean't for dancing and having fun. But it is nevertheless, interesting to not only hear him play, but also to see. Thanks for your reply.
