I have a Gigliotti mp and have used vanduran v12 3 reeds for the last year or so. I think they give me a great tone. However, due to the inconsitancy of Vanduran reeds and the way that I run through them so quickly ($$), my teacher suggested that I switch to regular Mitchell Lurie 3.5. First of all they feel extremely soft to me compared to the Vanduran V12 3. My tone is also thin and weak. Will I adjust to these reeds or are they a bad match for me? Maybe Mitchell Lurie 4 would be better for me.

I am surprised at the troubles you attest to, is this a P or P34, it seems that some players should make sure whether the combo of reed and mouthpiece are ideally matched. If you continue to have problems maybe the mouthpiece isn't right or the rails are out of whack. I'd say a 4 should go with this set up.

I have that mp too! I just got mine a week ago though. And I'm loving it. Not to mention, I'm not an experienced enough player to be able to tell if the reed doesn't work or not. If it's a reed, it works for me!!!!!!!

I used a Gigliotti #3 mouthpiece professionally for some years.....with 3 1/2 Olivieris...so probably a 4 Mitchell Lurie would be a possibility. It does depend on which Gigliotti you are using though. If you have a good one, they are fine mouthpieces.

In order to get any kind of reasonable advice, you have to tell us the exact model of your mouthpiece. Gigliotti mouthpieces are available with 5 different facings - P, P34, #2, #3, and #4. Which one do you have? Different facings may require different reeds.

I used both V12 3 1/2 and Lurie 4 on my Woodwind mouthpiece. The two reeds felt equally hard. Now I use Zonda 3 1/2 K, which is the hardest of the three grades of Zonda 3 1/2.
