has anyone ever heard of the Steven Collins Foster Music camp in EKU, and if they have, please tell all about it, and whether it would be a profitable experience for a young clarinetist who wants to (someday) become a proffesional.
or, if you know of any other (iinexpensive) summer camps for clarinetist, please tell me 'bout them.
:-)

I'll bet a box of reeds that the camp theme song is "My Old Kentucky Home" ...GBK ;-)

OK, a serious answer, since Mr. Charette's was somewhat curt. (He's been a little testy since -- metaphorically speaking -- he recently left the classroom for a few minutes and came back to find us throwing erasers at each other.)
Let me make some guesses between and around the lines. On the one hand, no one has commented positively on this camp. On the other hand, no one has commented negatively on this camp. So it's clearly not one of the major camps, and probably no one "here" has been to it, or perhaps even heard of it. I would guess it's probably a small, regional camp.
Does that mean it's rinky-dink or not worth attending? Maybe, maybe not. It looks like you will have to do your own investigating.
First decide what you want to get out of the experience. (If you're not sure, you could pose that question to the board: What did you find most valuable about the camp experience?)
Obviously you've heard of this camp. Do you have their promotional materials? If not, request them. Since the information you do have has not answered all your questions, why not call/write/e-mail the camp director and speak with him or her about what you hope to get out of the camp and see if there is a fit. Or speak with one or more of the camp instructors, preferrably the clarinet instructor. Is s/he well known as a player or teacher?
Are you in the target age group for this camp? If you're a high school student, for example, is the camp aimed at high school students? If so, are you close enough to then visit or call some of the high schools in the area and speak with the band directors or some camp alumni to get their opinions?
How long has the camp been in existence? Is this the first year, or is it well-established? Older isn't necessarily better, but does lend some credibility.
If it eventually sounds at least OK and the cost is modest, you might find the experience valuable just to give you a point of reference when considering a more well-known camp later.
Good luck with your quest. Sorry we couldn't help you directly. Let us know what happens.

Thank you, Todd.
Yes, I've been a bit "testy", but your above comments (along with a heck of a dialog on Debussy) are getting me back to my "normal" (but still sometimes curmudgeonly) self ;^)
