I have been eyeing that "quiver" of rosewood Patricola clarinets on Ebay and in the classifieds here. I've seen a few threads on these instruments, but most refer to their "C" clarinet, which seems to be very popular. What is the overall take on these instruments?

They are quite pretty to look at, but that may be "all there is." Just like with a beautiful woman (or man), the "lights may be on" but that doesn't necessarily mean "anyone is home." Buyer beware--try before you finalize the buy.

Purchesed a C from Woodwind and Brass Wind this spring. I'm an amature, but I've played for 30 years. My Bb is a Selmer soloist so I'm not going to be able to reference the difference (or compairability) of the Patricola and Buffett or anything, but the Patricola is a better horn than my Selmer.
I tested a total of four new Patricolas. WW&BW will ship them to you on spec. You pay the shipping cost back of what you don't want, but I liked the deal. At any rate, the four that I tested were very uniform in terms of tuning over the whole instrument range. Very consistent in terms of manufacture from what I could tell. I had to select based subjective "feel". Just what I would expect from a quality manufactureer.
They are a good bet as far as I can tell.

I've heard good things about Patricola and have owned a C for a brief time. I sold it because I cancelled my orchestra schedule this year due to the ill health of my mother-in-law and her subsequent death. But, the instrument was wonderful. I had the Grenadilla wood model and have heard the Rosewoods are much "brighter" in tone. Depends upon what you want. I would hesitate to buy so many at one time unless the seller offers a return.
