B&H 1010's

I have some serial numbers of some B&H 1010 clarinets and I am wondering if anyone knows if there is anywhere I can find out about the instruments from their serial numbers.

Is there a website with this kind of thing on at all?

What do you know about 1010's?

Any info would be really helpful

Be advised, you need the proper mouthpiece to play these in tune.
If the set does not come with a mouthpiece, contact Pillinger for pricing... you may have trouble matching a modern, smaller bore mouthpiece to the 1010.

Maybe worth the trouble, if the price is right.

How about the Peter Eaton mouthpiece. Isn't that also large bore? Isn't Peter Eaton a resurected 1010? Does anybody know for sure?

Yes, Peter Eaton is another. I think his mouthpieces are priced over 200.00. You'd better check though on that one. There is a link for his site in the Instrument section here.

FYI - Pillinger 1010 mpcs are 80 GBP (~125USD)
Eaton 1010 (large bore) are 250USD!

Couldn't tell you how either plays...

Peter Eaton and Ed Pillinger mouthpieces are both excellent.
However it,s also possible to get a french bore mouthpiece bored
out to accomodate a 1010.Secondhand 1010 mouthpieces occasionally
appear in shops(also try ebay.com)
As for 1010 clarinets,they were the prefered instrument of British
clarinetists for decades and many of them still play them or are
returning to them.A wonderful instrument that can be bought quite
cheaply these days.I wouldn,t be at all surprised if they underwent
a surge in popularity pretty soon.
Pre-war models(with a serial number around 30,000)don,t have the
Acton vent but can be great instruments.
Listen to recordings by Jack Brymer,Gervais de Peyer and Fred Thurston to get an idea of how they can sound.

Lets not forget Benny Goodman, The 1010 was the last model he switched to. I think on most of the Yale archives he's playing the 1010.
