I just bought a vintage clarinet that I am trying to find out information on. It looks like an older model. The name stamped on it is "pierre maure" and it says made in France. It has a wooden box with locking metal hinges wrapped in leather. The box has a tin line name plate that has SELMER written in Old English Script. It is definately a wooden clarient. The serial number is "A 27548" Any ideas where to look?

All you have to do is look at eBay on any given day and you will see literally dozens of older French clarinets such as yours, and the name on the case is irrelevant since it is not the original case for that clarinet. During the first half of the 20th century there were numerous small and medium-sized French firms making Boehm clarinets, out of wood or hard rubber ("ebonite"), of varying levels of quality. Pierre Maure, from what little I've seen, is one of these, no particular distinguishing characteristics that I know of.
