The band may not be good as a whole, but are there individuals that are also strong players? Sometimes a band that is weak overall may have 3 or 4 other strong players. You could get into doing chamber ensembles(particularly duets or trios) or even asking one of the students in your school who studies piano (and is at a relatively high level) who would like to perform music for clarinet and piano.

Get a good fingering reference, such as the one at <www.wfg.woodwind.org> or the one from David Pino's book. Listen to good recordings. Work through the Hite Melodious & Progressive Studies. And, if you can afford it or your parents are willing to play for them (and you aren't already), consider private lessons.

sel: Meri mentioned the David Pino book, which is quite good and one of the least expensive Clarinet references now available. It is loaded with information, published by Dover, titled *The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing*, and it sells for US$9.95. It is well worth the price of admission.

Meri: to include a link, you must not only put it between the acute brackets (upper case comma and period), but you must also precede the address with a prefix, such as http:// or ftp://. If you do not, the whole thing will vanish on the screen display.
