Fellow Aussies - if you happen to wake early:
Colin Brumby Clarinet Concerto
Paul Dean, clarinet
Wilfred Lehmann, conductor
Queensland Symphony
This is a wonderfully lyric work - unfortunately it's on at 5am (Thursday morning) on Classic FM.

The CD is still available for those of us with more urgent things to attend to at 5am (ie SLEEP!)
It is on the Jade label.

Andy - thanks, didn't know if it was that or an ABC Classics CD - I'll buy the CD.

Listen for the dodgy oboe section The recording goes back a while...1988 or something? Paul's first year in the QSO. It's amazing how much his playing has changed/improved since then.

The QSO (or the QO more correctly) is now (after the merger) a force to be reckoned with (at long last).

Diz,
I'm not so sure that they could be called a force to reckoned with. The strings are still fairly average and the wind and brass also are stil in need of some help. I heard them play Brahms 2nd Piano concerto and Dvorark 9 earlier this year and it was fairly dodgy. I agree they are a lot better then they were, but in comparison to our big two, the MSO and SSO, they are still light years behind.
